Abstract

The model is developed by formulating the unsteady free surface flow of sediment-laden water over a loose bed with the onedimensional differential equations expressing the conservation of mass for water, the conservation of mass for sediment and the momentum equation for the mixture. To formulate the problem a fourth relationship expressing the concentration of suspended sediment as a function of the others physical variables involved is introduced. The resulting system of three coupled differential equations is solved by an implicit finite difference scheme using a digital computer. A sample problem is resolved to verify numerically the convergence and stability of the difference scheme.
