Abstract

The inadequacy of buildings to meet the ever increasing demand for housing is a matter of growing concern in most of the developing countries. More than the provision of shelter, the housing and buildings serve as potential instrument effecting continuous change in the social economic life of the inhabitants. While carrying out a building program for mass housing, it is necessary to study the behaviour of the built environment including the performance assessment, management of the environmental qualtity and climatic effect. There is need to achieve higher productivity rate in housing construction by adopting improved and innovative design in construction techniques. In this context, standardisation and prefabrication of the building elements will go a long way in helping to solve the housing shortage problem
