Abstract

Results of laboratory tests on shear strengthened reinforced concrete beams are presented. The twenty-one tested beams had T-shaped cross section, with two different amount of shear reinforcement. Fifteen beams were strengthened for shear, using shotcrete technique. Different construction arrangements were designed for additional shear reinforcement (vertical stirrups), in order to compare effectiveness of each one. The beams were loaded up to failure. During the loading tests, behaviour of beams was observed, by measuring applied load level, mid-span deformation, crack patterns and widths (flexural and shear cracks) and longitudinal strains at mid-span section. Representative graphics were outlined, making possible to compare effectiveness between different strengthening solutions, and also to conclude if requirements for stirrups passing through the compression flange are necessary or not.
