Abstract

The present state of the art, strength and weakness of numerical techniques for calculating vibroacoustic problems is overviewed, mainly from a practicioner noise control engineer's point of view. The very brief summay of lhe classical numerical (Finite Elément and Boundary Element) methods is completed by a short review of recentIv developed, more complex approaches and extensions. Some problemafic issues of numerical modeling such as accuracy, various methods and levels of source and absorption modeling and lhe main stumbling block, Le. computational costs, are adressed in detail. The effective use of lhe discussed methods is demonstrated by a few industrial examples Finally, an outlook to some possible future developments is presented
