Abstract

This work analyses the mechanical behavior of high-strength concrete through core and cylinders with different concrete mixtures. The tests included the compressive strength, tensile strength and modulus of elasticity. The cores were drilled from elements (blocks) made in the laboratory. The variables studied were the water/(cement + silica fume), maximum size of aggregates, percentage of silica fume, length/diameter ratio, and diameter of the cores and cylinders. Studies of the effects the concrete strength resulted in mathematical models, which were established in, order to estimate the corresponding strength and modulus of elasticity. The research found, for the variables studied, a similar behavior for the mechanical properties of cylinders and cores of high-strength concrete and conventional concrete. That made it possible to use the same interpretation methods for the test results.
