Abstract

The C&D (construction & demolition) debris recycling is a practice that protects the environment and has been growing in Brazil, with the creation of Recycling Plants in important cities of the country. Entrepreneurs are interested in the recycling, too, and are studying partnership with municipal managers to recycle C&D debris. Besides the obvious benefits of these facts, the entry of the recycled aggregate into the material market may lead to a misuse of the material if the users do not receive information about its standards and applications. This paper presents a proposition of specification for recycled aggregate to be used in concrete, with information about classification, recommended and "forbidden" uses, acceptable composition, etc. Some guidelines in its preparation were: (1) use of large amounts of recycled aggregate; (2) simplification of the applications; (3) users’ safety; (4) creation of conditions to the advance of the C&D recycling in Brazil.
