Abstract

This paper discusses the efficiency of prismatic glazing used as a daylighting strategy for side- window applications. Several design parameters that could affect the performance of the prism panels were tested namely the prism vertex, the prism type and the prism location within the window aperture. Two types of prismatic panels were tested and whose performance was compared to that of conventional glass having equal light transmission factor. Data indicate that prismatic panels can be a viable daylighting alternative in a side window application. The prism type largely determines the performance of these systems. Data also indicated that prism vertex and prismatic location within the window aperture have a significant effect on the depth of the daylight penetration with the room.
