Abstract

The appearance of the computers has completely changed the ways in which architects work. At first there was some lack of confidence and a fear that the computer could destroy the creation of good and honest architecture, but this was based on a missconception that the computer could remove the need for architects, either now, or in the future. Multimedia is a very new and complex system of different hardware components connected together and equipped with all the necessary software. Such systems use different data and media in a new integration with the computer. Such systems must work as new autonomous systems, simple to operate, easy to understand, but at the same time interesting, graphically attractive and clear, full of all kinds of information, persuasive and always open to necessary changes. CODE (concurrent design, the design at the same time on two or more locations, running together or happening at the same time), or a long-distance project ( via the Internet ) is only the next step in the development of presentation in architecture. Available software, Autocad 2000i and several Web modelers and browsers, enables this new way of graphically presenting architecture. Long distance project, CODE, uses multimedia as the best and the most effective way of graphically presenting architecture. Multimedia becomes the only possible method of working and making projects from and to different parts of the world. Practice shows that this is also the only possible way of teaching architectural composition where students and tutors are physically dislocated. At the University of Ljubljana, Faculty of Architecture, long-distance teaching was successfully testede with two visiting professors and two groups of students.
