Abstract

Fast clinker cooling with excellent recuperation can be achieved by introducing strong horizontal air jets into the clinker bed. The advantage of horizontal aeration is no turmoilling of the clinker bed, no sand blasting ffects on the grate plates, soft transport of the fines to the bed s surface and sharp temperature profile across the clinker bed. IKN s solution is the COANDA Nozzle which generates strong air jets djacent to the grate surface and which prevents the passage of clinker rough the grate. The physical effect is named after Henry Coanda, a Romanian. The COANDA Nozzles are part of the IKN fixed Clinker inlet Distribution System wich performs with outstanding results in lifetime and heat recuperation. Encouraged by these results, IKN developed a new generation of clinker coolers, e IKN Pendulum Cooler with COANDA Nozzles.
