Abstract

Cracks at early age are a major concern in shotcrete used in tunnels and thick shotcrete repairs, since the serviceability of the shotcrete structure can be affected. In large-scale concrete structural applications, the prevention and control of early age thermal cracking is also a major concern. During the heat of hydration process, the rise and drop of temperature can lead to cracks if the combined stress due to temperature, creep and shrinkage exceeds the tensile strength of the material. A step time model is proposed to predict the effects of temperature associated with creep and shrinkage parameters during the heat of hydration process of cement in a thick shotcrete structure. Keywords: Crack Prediction, Creep Stress, Early Age Properties, Fibre Reinforced Shotcrete, Heat of Hydration, Restraint, Shrinkage Stress, Thermal Stress.
