Abstract

The use of the self-compacting concrete has been suffering a considerable increase in the execution of different buildings constructions, such as: high buildings, bridges, foundations and repairs of structures. There are many questions in using the self-compacting concrete as a substitute of ordinary concrete, mainly about mechanical properties. Because the specifications the structural design count especially on the mechanical properties, specifically compressive strength and elastic modulus, it is very important the analysis of the behavior of these variables, comparing the self-compacting concrete and ordinary (conventional) compacting concrete. In this article outlines about mechanical and elastic properties, such as: simple compressive strength and elastic modulus of the self-compacting concrete compared with the ordinary compacting concrete with the same mix proportions. In order to obtain a wide analysis which can compare the performance in the hardened state self-compacting concrete with relationship to the ordinary compacting concrete, it was studied different concrete with water/cement ratio (w/c) 0,30; 0,40; 0,50; 0,60; 0,70; 0,80; 0,90; 1,00. The results obtained show that the ordinary concrete has a better performance in the mechanical and elastic properties, when compared to the self-compacting concrete, for the same w/c ratio.
