Abstract

This paper describes a computationaly efficient method developed for the dynamic analysis of structure-fluid-foundation systems. The method is based on the finite element discretization of the complete system assuming nodal displacements and nodal pressures to be the basic unknowns for the structure-foundation system and the fluid respectively. The present method removes several limitations of the existing methods. Triple interaction between the structure, fluid and foundation, compressibility of water, arbitrary geometry and arbitrary excitation have been included in the analysis. Some approximate techniques have been suggested which save considerable computational efforts without any significant loss of accuracy. With the suggested approximations, the method is highly suitable for a relatively smaller computer.
