Resumo

A estética é uma intenção presente em todos os projetos e intervenções realizadas nas diversas escalas do espaço urbano, ou melhor, nas ações concretas que interferem nos nossos modos de vida na cidade, desde a implantação de edifícios e abertura de novas ruas até a modificação de sarjetas. Este trabalho é uma investigação sobre as concepções estéticas que nortearam a transformação dos espaços públicos paulistanos entre as décadas de 30 e 70 deste século. Entendemos a estética urbana como uma problemática da ação projetual comprometida com a qualidade de vida da sociedade, um problema de desenho, aqui tratado como uma intenção e um desígnio. Através dessa pesquisa pretendemos refletir sobre projetos e obras que permearam as transformações dos espaços públicos paulistanos. Os livros que tratam da história da arquitetura da cidade de São Paulo falam sobre um urbanismo embelezador que pressupunha a limpeza da cidade através da demolição de simples construções e da reorganização da aparência desordenada da área central da cidade, o que acarretou a expulsão da população menos favorecida para as periferias. Queremos refletir sobre a estética não como um privilégio de pequena parcela da população mas como uma possibilidade para todas as pessoas, independente de sua classe social.

Abstract

The esthetics as intention is present in all designs and interventions carried through in diverse scales of the city, or better in the concrete actions that intervene with the life modes with the city, since the implantation of buildings and aperture of new streets until the modification of a gutter. This is a research about the esthetics conceptions that had guided the transformation São Paulo’s city public spaces between the decades of 30 and 70 of this century XX. We understand the esthetics urban as a problematic one of the compromised projetual action with the quality of life the society and, under this perspective, a drawing problem, treated here as an intention and a design. It is under these approaches that we intend to reflect on the spaces architectural and urban, the designs that have permeated the transformation of São Paulo’s public spaces. The books that deal with the history of São Paulo’s architecture in them lead to think that this "beautify urbanism" estimated the cleanness of the city through the demolition of the "simple constructions" and the rearrangement of the "unordered appearance" of the central urban landscape of São Paulo, what carried the expulsion of the poor people to the peripheries. We want to reflect about the esthetics not like a privilege only for a rich bourgeoisie, but like a important possibility for all the people independent of the social group.
