Abstract

Slipforming construction involves a continuos and simultaneous casting and moulding process in the works. Concrete mass placed in the form is under many unfavourable actions during its hardening lapse. They can produce further consequences on the concrete behaviour and its structural performance. Hence, building codes and technical reports consider additional safety factors and special cautions for design and construction of slipformed works. However, practical results have indicated that not always, by this way good quality of the slipformed concrete is assured even though the costs of the building increase. So new studies on the matter were needed to improve it. A large research on the behaviour of the slipformed concretes was carried - out by the renowned Co. Bygging - Ungern 31.AB and the Technical University of Budapest (Hungary) in co-operation with the Cuban Ministry of Construction. Data, observations and testing results from differents works and laboratories in both countries were collected for almost 10 years. They were tested along the experimental programme of the PhD study. It was done by the present authors from 1987 to 1991. The behaviour of the fresh concrete layers subjected to slipforming actions was defined by a new theoretical approach. It is based on the analytic modelation where the relationships among the different variables of the slipforming process and the technological parameters taken from the materials and site conditions are integrated as a system. This system permits to evaluate the process in every circumstance to achieve the adjusted stripping state, which assures the best behaviour and quality of the slipformed concretes. Validations in simulated experimental models and real slipformed works have demostrated the efficiency of our method since the first applications in 1990. Stability and structural performance of the slipformed concretes are increased as a result of a more rational handling of this technique.
